Tradition points out the site of an ancient castle near the high road to Brecknock; but nothing of its history is recorded, and probably it was only a lodge for the residence of a forester under the lords of Trêtower castle. (Lewis 1849)

Gatehouse Comments

Supposed to have stood near to the point where the Afon Crawnon enters the Usk, nearby is a Castle Farm at SO150196. Nothing recorded in CARN databases. This is an entirely feasible site for a small medieval castle and the local tradition reported by Lewis seems strong. The manor became part of the Tretower Estate before the time of Edward IV (possible well before) so probably functionally defunct at an early age which may account for the apparent lack of remains.
