A generally rectangular moated enclosure, situated on the south-east side of Llanfilo churchyard. A subrectangular platform, some 24m east-west by 15m, is surrounded by a moat up to 12m across. The moat is narrower on the north where it is embanked and there was probably a bridged approach. There are traces of terracing on the platform, which may have held buildings. The monument is about 50m by 44m overall.

Another moat (NPRN 306047) lies some 0.6km to the south. Moats such as this usually date to the medieval period, although some are later. They served a variety of purposes, often enclosing mansions, but sometimes housing lodges, gardens or other features. The possession of a moat was a badge of wealth and status. John Wiles 11.04.07 (Coflein)

The monument comprises the remains of a well-preserved medieval moated homestead. The internal area measures approximately 24m by 15m and is level with no obvious features. The surrounding ditch is well-defined, between 5m and 11m wide and up to 3m deep on the S side. There has been some quarrying activity in the past which has cut into the NE corner of the ditch resulting in it no longer holding water, and on the N face of the central mound resulting in a large hollow. On the N side there is an outer retaining bank up to 2m high which has evidence for the location of a bridge across the moat. There is an old hedgebank running E from the NE corner.
