Members of the archaeology section of the Woolhope Club visited the site (05/05/91) to determine whether a low mound just off the Woods Eaves to Eardisley road was an actual earthwork (possible strong house site) or natural. The mound is probably mostly natural except for the remains of a possible V shaped ditch. This could mark an old field boundary or it could be a ploughed out ditch. More investigation would be needed to determine the nature of the site. (Herefordshire SMR ref Halliwell, 1992)

This may be the same as a 'Possible enclosure of unknown date seen as earthworks' Recorded in PastScape at SO28694917 more fully described as 'an incomplete, oval enclosure, defined by 2 ditches, centred at SO 2869 4917. The external dimensions of this enclosure are 75m by 70m and the inner enclosure is 33m across.'Nothing to really suggest a medieval fortified site of any type here.
