A small tower was built by one of the Roddam family shortly after 1415 and was described as being ruinous in 1541. (PastScape ref. Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

Roddam was a village as early as 1296 but was deserted well before the C19. The modern Roddam Haal is early C18 but may well represent the site of the medieval manor house which was, presumably, an unfortified hall with an attached chamber or solar tower.
