Although now used as a byre, this building was probably once a bastle of late C16 or early C17 date. (Keys to the Past)

Gatehouse Comments

Does not seem to be included in Peter Ryder's survey of bastles which may be significant. The location given on the Keys to the Past, which is usual accurate, is to a modern building - not the old buildings. The likelihood is this a mis-identification of the bastle at Low Roses Bastle (the references given in the county HER certainly seem to relate to that building) rather than to this farmstead.
