Nothing known of castle mentioned by Harvey. (King 1983)

Gatehouse Comments

There is no Neston place-name in Northumberland in OS 1:50000 gazetteer. This is probably a mis-transcription of a known site, although it is difficult to think which one (one of the several Newtons? Nesbit?). Necton occurs as a place in a list of manors owing a knight's fee service to Henry Percy (Hodgson, 1820, A History of Northumberland (Newcastle upon Tyne) Part 3 Vol. 1 p. 60) In the context of Harvey's list can safely be rejected as the site of an otherwise unrecorded medieval fortification.
