One of the houses in the village {of Netherton}, still standing at this intemperate time {c. 1800} although built perhaps two hundred years earlier, was thought to be a bastle. There is no sign of it now and nothing about it has been found in the records, so its bastle status can only be regarded as dubious. (Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

This is a village well inside the area where bastles are common so a bastle here is, by no means, unlikely although there is, seemingly, no evidence for one. It would be nice to know Dodds source but he cites no references.
