Glantowy is a two and a half storey stone-built farmhouse. It is currently undergoing investigation to establish its origin and structural history.

David Thomas, RCAHMW, 8 May 2012. (Coflein)

Its currently under investigation regarding its age. It could very well be a pele tower at the core with later additions and there is possible primary evidence of its occupation going way back.

The tower part seems to have been engulfed by extensions. There are two basements, neither vaulted, one lies under an extension and the smaller under the tower. The ground floor sports old wooden ceiling / floor beams with possible masonic marks and the first floor has walls similar in style to the medieval houses of Conwy. (P. Knight 28-1-2014 pers. corr.)

Gatehouse Comments

Gatehouse has not yet established any further details for this house. It does appear to be a house of some age and gentry status, possible being the home to an C18 high sheriff of Carmarthenshire (although there may be other Glantowy/Glantywi place-names in the valley of the Afon Tywi since the name simply translates as 'river bank of the Tywi'). Was within the medieval Llangathen church parish. Lies on the A40, which was the main medieval road, and in rich farmland.
