Circular cropmark of ditch of possible motte close to river crossing and by church. Upton on Severn was once a thriving medieval town with fairs and a market it also had a harbour for barges on the Severn. There is no record of a charter, but it is frequently described as a borough in C15. It is not described as a borough after this date.
Suggestion that earthwork beside the river on the NW side of Upton is the remains of a truncated motte. (Price).
Site observed in 1994. Partial as on private land. Viewed from the road and carpark there is no sign of a motte. However there does appear to be a possibly infilled pond feature in the west part of the field. It is suggested that this site is extremely dubious as there is no visible motte at the site (Dalwood).
