Gatehouse Comments

The field at the given map reference is isolated by a scarp on the north, east and west sides. The farm to the south is called 'Bank Farm'. Does this suggest this field was embanked on the southern side making a 'promontory fort'? Nothing really to suggest a medieval castle, although if was a pre-historic enclosure medieval reuse is not impossible. A number of small castles are sited on the bank of the River Severn.
