"Castle End" place-name to the north-east of Lea Church stretching on both sides of the Roman ride from Ariconium (Weston-under-Penyard). Nptraces of a castle on the ground have been recorded. (Shoesmith)

Gatehouse Comments

Probably on the edge of the Domesday village, although the site of the castle/defended manor site is not known. This is certainly an entirely typical position for a manor house and in Herefordshire any early manor house would probably be fortified. However, place name evidence alone is weak and this may actual refer to a lost Roman structure.
