Possible remains of 11th century manorial hall and circa A.D. 950 pre-Norman round house. (Coflein)

Moated platform site of possible stone castle of 1255 which replaced earlier earth ringwork. Geoff Mein has uncovered fairly substantial masonry remains on the moated platform, with indications that the castle went through several phases of alterations. (Gatehouse thanks David Maynard for the excavation information.)

'The finds stretch back to prehistory and the suggested castle was a wooden palisaded ring-work set on top of a slighted Roman fortlet. Later stone construction has been dated to the mid C13' (Mein 1991 p. 47 quoted in Phillips)
