Artificial mound approximately 10m across, with a flat top. No sign of any associated earthworks. There is rough coursed walling against one side. Possible motte but no sign of a bailey. Land falls steeply away to the north side and there is an outbuilding on the south. (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Close to Coed y Cra Uchaf farmhouse, a substancial C17 farmhouse (with presumably much older origins). There are a number of similar type isolated mounds associated with farmhouses in the Welsh Marches (notably the Vale of Montgomery) which are identified as mottes and it seems reasonable to consider this mound in the same light.
