Mound in one corner of graveyard now used for dumping rubbish etc. by railway track (which is in a slightly depressed area) could be possible dump - also possible that it is the remains of a motte. (Worcestershire and Worcester City HER ref. HAW. 4.1993. SMR Card: Earthwork south east of Church. Hampton Lovett)

Gatehouse Comments

The site could be a manorial centre, although the railway through the site makes interpreting the medieval landscape difficult. The mound is not marked nor mentioned as being ditched. No bailey is visible but if any such had existed it would, most likely, have been destroyed by the railway. The tenurial history may suggest a sub-tenant not really wealthy enough to have a castle, although symbolic mounds, reflecting knightly status, can occur in such manors. The VCH seems to suggest the main manor house was at Upper Hall Farm (SO881656). The evidence for this being a motte is scant but the site can not be entirely dismissed.
