Gatehouse Comments

This is a C15 timber framed building formerly a school house dated to 1530. The attribution of this building to the bishop's manor is doubtful, although the manor house would probably have been close to the church, like this building. Tonkin state this was not a residential manor of the bishop, so any manor house administrative and for steward only although may have been occasionally used residentially in the C11-C13. There are fish ponds just south of Cradley (SO73904813) and it may be these represent a possible location for the bishops manor. Was descheduled in 1992, presumably because being protected by its 2star listed building status.
