A mound, c20m in diameter/square and 1.0-2.0m high, which has the appearance of having been a moated motte. Excavation demonstrated that this is an artificial feature but found no trace of a ditch around, or structures upon the mound. (Coflein)

Gatehouse Comments

This site has been considered by some writers to be a castle but is rejected as such by Hogg and King as a cairn. Marked as a motte on the OS map and located by crossroad. Locals seem to believe the site is a 'saxon burial mound'.
