A gateway has large door jambs with checks and tunnels of a pele and may be either a second pele or reused masonry. Traces of old fields, folds and ploughing remain (Long 1988).
North of Highfield ruined bastle, in the field wall immediately east of the gateway where the farm track joins the forest road, the fragmentary remains of another building are incorporated (NY 75429082). All that survives is a slice of its end wall, c.0.7m thick and 1.5m high, incorporated in a later field wall running almost at right angles to it. South of the wall are what appear to be the footings of the south east corner of the building, and of a little of its south wall; its west end is lost beneath the made up track. There appears to have been a doorway immediately south of the surviving upstanding fragment; lying on the turf is a single large block from a door jamb, with a rebate and sections of two drawbar tunnels, a feature which surely indicates a defensible building. Other dressed stones are reused in the field wall. Slight though this fragment is, it would seem likely to have been yet another bastle (Ryder 1994-5). (Northumberland HER)
