Mound, suggested as possible castle by Salter, one of two isolated mounds in water meadow.

Circular mound c2m high & C40m diam at base. As described looks like a barrow but situation on flood plain makes this unlikely, may be natural. Field called the Cotts. Mound still there (about 4' high), unlikely to be ploughed, meadowland. (Herefordshire Through Time)

Bronze Age bowl barrow situated on the floodplain of the River Lugg 70m from the river and 460m south of Lower Court. It stands in a field called The Cott. There is a small depression in the mound on its east side which may indicate past excavation. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Although not ploughed the floodplain location is erosive and ditches will have been infilled. However, there is no evidence of this being a medieval centre and can be rejected as motte. See also The Hommes
