Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of ? medieval castle reads 'Gaergyno (OS, 1837). Now corrupted to (or possibly originally derived from) Caecyno. Name may indicate a defended site.'

Gatehouse Comments

Does not seem a likely site for a high status medieval fortification. The location is an isolated valley which could be a place of retreat but the name 'fort of the dogs' suggests the possibility of a bandits holdout.
