Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of ? medieval castle reads 'Name probably referring to situation rather than proximity of defended site.'

The name 'castle of the winds,' is appropriate to the situation. (RCAHMW)

Gatehouse Comments

Beside minor road deep in the Cambrian Mountains and rather isolated. Very unlikely castle site. Might just possible be a natural place of retreat but name more likely to be a name given by drovers to aid navigation.
