Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust record of ? castle reads 'Placename suggesting defended site. No such feature visible (CPAT site visit 1978). Possibly just a fanciful house name.'

Castell - A cottage on the south slope of Pen y Bylchau, for the name of which no reason is apparent. (RCAHMW)

Gatehouse Comments

Apparently a Welshman's house is his castell. An isolated cottage of the sort a recluse might live in and named in a manner suggestive of a desire to be cut off from the world. Certainly this an unlikely location for a medieval fortification.
