Name suggestive of some sort of defended site. Probably relates to Gaer Fach (PRN 452). No further detail.

Castell Manest was the name of a farmstead set high up a small valley. Gaer Fach is about one kilometre to the north-west and could be the origin of the name, but equally the predilection of giving the term 'castell' or 'castle' to encroachment cottages should be recalled. Until such times that something positive is seen on aerial photographs, the implications of this name are best treated with considerable caution (CPAT Defended Enclosures in Brecknock Project, 2007). Gatehouse Comments

Gaer Fach is a hillfort 1km WNW. Craggy hillside location and it is more likely the name comes from the wall like look of the craggy cliffs. Clearly not a medieval castle site.
