A fairly modern brick farmhouse with small stone out buildings which are perhaps contemporary. It stands on the site of pre 1252 Llangenydd Castle. Llangenydd Castle is mentioned in Welsh history as having been taked by the Welsh in 1252. It stood where Stormy Castle now stands. Davies traced the foundations in 1892 and from local residents obtained the information that, within living memory, the walls had stood 20ft high. It was a square bulding in plan with round towers on the north side, and two pigeon houses on adjoining plots of land. (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Spurgeon report substantial foundations of an apparently medieval house, known locally as Stormy Castle. He accepts this as the site of a 'castle' of the de la Mares reported by Davies but Spurgeon dismisses this as an actual castle. There may be confusion in the records between to the two Stormy Castles in the Llangennith, Llanmadoc and Cheriton Community including in earlier version of this database.
