Gatehouse Comments

The given map reference may be suspect and such an early and unsupported reference is also suspect. The temptation must be to see this as as mislocated or confused reference to Hundred House motte. However, the given site is not too distant from the church and would command the road and can not be totally dismissed, although it is more likely that the foundation seen here were but not those of a fortified building. Suggested a welsh motte predecessor to Hundred House Motte. However, Paul Remfry writes 'certainly not predeccesor of Glan Edw which is prob 1090's. Might just have been one of its surrounding mottes as sub-infeudation like Cregina.'
