King writes 'Remains washed out to sea'. Spurgeon writes that several early antiquarian writers mention the castle but probably as a reference to the nearby The Bulwarks Iron Age hillfort, Morganwg (c1800) noted 'foundations' off shore and attributed these to a castle. Spurgeon suggests these foundations were rock cut oyster collection tanks such as those recently observed at ST09806660.
