C19 farmhouse on site of medieval house accepted as castle by Clark. Spurgeon reports there is no medieval record or manorial context for a fortified site at Beauville. Foundations, traces of walls, and rubble have been reported at four locations on higher ground near Beauville Farm, at ST13907234, ST13707220, ST13727205 and ST13727210, but none of these sites displays evidence of fortification.
Suggested site of the former Beauville Castle, owned by the Howel family who were recorded living at 'Bouville' in a will of 1695. Site is now occupied by Beauville Farm, believed to have been built by R F Jenner, possibly in the 17th century. A 17th century garden lies to the north. No further evidence of a castle or defensive building has been found. Site was rejected by RCAHMW in 2000. Alternative site located at ST137722. (Glamorgan-Gwent Archaeological Trust HER)
