Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER record of a medieval castle reads 'Placename suggesting possible fortified site nearby none are known.'

Gatehouse Comments

This is a dwelling called Castell, another dwelling called 'gatehouse' was shown nearby on 1st edition OS map. This not an obvious site for either a medieval castle or a pre-historic fortification. The house called 'castell' is a late Victorian house but not in a gothick style or with castellated feature. However the suspicion must be this is just some grandious housenaming.
