An approximately circular inner enclosure with an outer enclosure with defences on north and west sides only (c0.6ha). The inner enclosure measures 12m in diameter and has a bank 0.3m high. Some remains of buildings survive within the inner enclosure. Within the outer enclosure are two medieval pillow mounds and a hut circle. Originally Iron Age in build there is a tradition of Dark Age occupation: the rectangular buildings may belong to this period. (Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER)

Gatehouse Comments

Ednyfed Fychan, chief advisor to Prince Llewelyn ap Iorwerth, possible had a castle here from 1240. The RCAHMW places this castle within the Iron Age and Dark Age hill fort of Bryn Euryn. However it has also been suggested this castle occupied the site now occupied by the remains of the C15 mansion of Llys Euryn (SH8329680228).
