Clwyd Powys Archaeological Trust HER record 102637 reads 'Cae Twmpath name referring to mound or barrow but no barrow is known. The RCAHM notes a natural mound in the coppice to the north from which it may derive its name.' Record 101522 for a mound of the same name and same location suggests ? motte.

The patch called 'Cae Twmpath' in the Tithe Schedule (No. 275) has long been enclosed in Plas Power Park, and no sign of a mound is now to be seen on its surface, nor in the coppice to the north of it; but the ground of the coppice rises gradually eastwards, until immediately west of Pwll y go the ridge assumes the appearance of a mound. Gatehouse Comments

Position isolated from settlement but beside road overlooking Offa's Dyke. Was the natural mound used as a temporary taxation point castle?
