Earthworks thought to represent a medieval castle mount: a steep-sided flat-topped mound, about 30m in diameter & rising about 5.5m to a rather oval summit area, some 17-20m across; to the north the mound is set above steep natural slopes down to the Gwendraeth Fach valley floor, elsewhere it is ditched & counterscarped, the work being some 50m across overall. (Coflein)

Castell y Domen motte still in a good state of preservation but badly overgrown with trees and bracken. A bank and ditch surrounds the motte with a depth of about 6 feet on the southern side getting shall shallower towards the north ie the riverside. There is a maximum width of about 20 feet on the ditch and the bank varies from between two to six feet. (Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER)

The monument comprises the remains of a motte and ditch, dating to the medieval period (c. 1066 -1540 AD). A motte is a large conical or pyramidal mound of soil and/or stone, usually surrounded by either a wet or dry ditch, and surmounted by a tower constructed of timber or stone. Cstell y Domen measures 55m high and has a summit diameter of 18m. The encircling ditch is 1.5m deep, and is well preserved on all sides save the north where the steep natural slopes render it unnecessary. The monument is of national importance for its potential to enhance our knowledge of medieval defensive practices. (Scheduling Report)
