Dyfed Archaeological Trust HER record of ?Medieval Motte in square SN7555. Lewis mentions an earthwork still extant in 1833, "the remains of a military work.... constructed by Rhys ap Owain". The only locational guide he gives is that the site was on the western bank of the Camddwr.

In making their attack upon the Princes of South Wales, the sons of Bleddyn crossed the river Camddwr by a ford still called Rhyd-y-Meirch, or "the ford of the cavalry;" and on the western bank of that stream are the remains of a military work, called Castell, which was constructed by Rhys and Rhydderch on this occasion. (Lewis)

Gatehouse Comments

Now a mountainous moorland and very isolated, but site of deserted rural settlement. Site probably too small and isolated to actually have a castle. A small circular feature appears on the air photo at the given reference, although this may not be the feature meant by Lewis. Lewis description would suggest something nearer the river presumably near Soar y Mynydd (SN785532)
