Gatehouse Comments

One of three farms adjacent farms Pytingwyn, Pytindu and Pytinglas (Pytin white, black and green) probably part of one manor of a Poitevin knight of Bernard Newmarch. Kings suggestion is not supported by the tenurial history and the actual site of the Poitevin residence (whatever the form) may have been Pytingwyn since this was the principle residence of the later Gam family who purchased the manor for 300 marks from William Peyton (Jones) in the late C14. This seems to be recorded as 'Castle of Poytins' destroyed by Owain Glyndwr in 1412 but the histories are all elderly and poorly referenced.
