Farmhouse, now part of hotel. Mid C18 with older core. Ashlar with Welsh slate roof. 2 storeys, 3 bays. C20 panelled door and 4-pane sashes in raised stone surrounds. Steeply-pitched roof with flat coping and kneelers Corniced left end stack; the right gable has a partly external stack.

To rear, old masonry in lower courses. Pointed-arched stair window with raised surround and intersecting glazing bars.

Inside a very large blocked fireplace with Tudor-arched lintel. (Listed Building Report)

Further research on The Pines is suggested in order to ascertain whether it originated as a bastle house or not - this could hopefully remove the mystery about its 'older core'. (Whitton Conservation Area Charater Appraisal 2008)

Gatehouse Comments

The house is listed under the name 'Whitton Farmhouse' and there is confabulation between this site and Whitton Farmhouse.
