At the conclusion of the section on 'castle mounts with attached courts' in the VCH Downman writes "a small mound is shown on the Ordnance Survey maps, and named 'Moot Hill' and 'Tumulus'; the writer, however, could find no traces of such a mound." However this is written in the context of a description of Sibbertoft Castle Yard and it is likely that Downman did not think this was a castle mount.

There are now no surface indications of this feature. The classification could not be determined but it would seen likely that the mound was a spoil heap from the adjacent pond. (PastScape)

Gatehouse Comments

Sibbertoft is one of 26 places in the Hundred of Stotfold which seems to be two distinct area north and south of Northampton. There is no Stotford place-name, although it maybe the hundred took its name from Water Stratford in the southern group. Was this site the moot for the northern group of places in this hundred? It may also be that the otherwise isolated Sibbertoft Castle a little to the north was originally a moot meeting place. It is shown on the 1885 map but not on modern maps and nothing is visible on air photos.
