Skaigh House, Belstone, was built on the site of a ruin sometimes known as "old castle" (Moorman). (Devon Historic Environment Record)

Gatehouse Comments

Despite being categorised in the Devon HER under broadclass 'defence' it seems most unlikely that the previous building was a medieval fortification of any type. However, Skaigh may have been a medieval settlement and there are considerable number of pillow mound to the south, so possibly a manor house in the area or, more likely, a warreners lodge.
