An earthworks survey for Madingley Hall diploma suggests the presence of earthworks and a defensive dyke at the possible Mallet's Manor site. The dyke is suggested to have become used as a hollow way. The manor houses (Mallet's & Uphall) are suggested to begin in the Norman period. A documentary study of the area is included. (Cambs HER)

Gatehouse Comments

The map reference given in the Cambs HER is the site of Up Hall Farm shown on the 1886 OS map but now housing. The VCH states Mallets manor was NE of the church. This may be a confused record where a pre-historic ditch and a non fortified manor house have been recorded as somehow related.
