A possible motte of probable medieval date; it could potentially be of natural origin.

Evaluated for MPP in 1990-1, Medium score as one of 43 Motte castles. Initially noted by MD Watson from place name evidence. Subsequently viewed and photographed from the air.

A mound and scarp were visible but a visit is necessary to confirm whether these features are natural or man made. (Shropshire HER)

Gatehouse Comments

This is an area of many mottes and it is entirely possible this could be a 'knights fee' farmstead type motte although the identification of this mound as artificial (or adapted artificially) is weak. Meadowtown was one of thirteen berewicks of the very large Domesday manor of Worthin some of which were certainly held by sub-tenants who owed military service and which are marked by small mottes (i.e. Hope).
