A confirmation of a licence of 21 June 14th year of Edward III (1340) was made on 27 Jan 1342 for Bernardus de Dalham to make a certain strong house or fortalice of stone and lime, and to crenellate it ... at Crodonio.

Gatehouse Comments

Turner and Parker suggested Addington, Surrey which is near Croydon but received a licence in 1269 under the name Adington. However, the examplification is translated by the PRO as Créon and the licence has the provision the castle can be surrendered to the king, or his seneschals of Aquitaine and this licence is clearly for some site in the C14 bastide town in Aquitaine and is beyond the scope of this web-site. (However Gatehouse can nott find a reference to Bernard Dalham in association with this french town, or otherwise.). Rejected as a fortification in Surrey (or indeed England) although probably a fortified site in France.
