London Inn of the Bishop of Durham. Built by Bishop Hatfield (1345-81) in Westminster at Charing Cross, by riverside. Durham House passed to the Crown in 1536 and was, thereafter, used for diplomatic entertainment and lodging. Most of the ancient buildings were pulled down in 1660 and in 1769-70 the Adelphi was built on the site.
