The parish church of Kirknewton was built in C13, but it was greatly altered in C19. In the chancel an unusual carving of the Adoration of the Magi, dating to C12, can be seen. (Keys to the Past)

Gatehouse Comments

Brooke writes there is considerable evidence for the original defensive adaptation of the building. However Peter Ryder, the noted and experience building historian of Northumberland describes the church in detail with no mention of defence.
