Bond writes that a late Saxon possible circuit 'can be traced from topographical indications'.

It has been suggested that there was a mint at Pershore in the mid-11th century (Bond 1977, 8), and from this the existence of a defended burh has been inferred (ibid, 26). The evidence for either the mint or the defences is not strong at present. (Dalwood and Bryant)

Gatehouse Comments

Quite what the topographical indications for defences at Pershore are is obscure, certainly and defences of the town would be dependent on the Abbey precinct being defended. Nothing the VCH town history suggests defences or hints at topographical indications. Parts of the town are subject to flooding of the River Avon and it may be there were some medieval flood defences. Map reference for Broad Street, the medieval market place.
