Castle Hill is a place name here possibly from a former tower. (Jackson)

Gatehouse Comments

Jackson's map reference is not entirely certain since not an obvious hill and not marked as such on early OS maps. He is almost certainly referring to Tursdale Castle Hill at NZ30573604. However, as the place-name suggests, the area has been extensively quarried since at least medieval times and probably before. (The quality limestone was used for lime production as well as building material.)
