Possible site of a bastle 500 yards west of Whitfield Old Town. A very dilapidated ruin which has the shape of a bastle, although many of its stones have been reused in two converging field boundary walls. (PastScape ref. Dodds 1999)

Gatehouse Comments

Shown as a roofed building on the 1865 six-inch OS map. Dodds's source is uncited. Does not occur in the archaeological databases other than from Dodds. Dodds is not an archaeologist or buildings historians. The area has been fairly intensely examined by Peter Ryder and he makes no mention of this. This site requires proper assessment, it is not impossible as a pele-house bastle but could actual just be a field barn.
