Documented site of a medieval tower of C14 date, now overlain by a modern road. The detached tower stood on the townward side, in advance of the main entrance to Berwick Castle. It was known in C14 as Douglas Tower and in C15 as Percy's Tower. The tower was itself a heavily defended work, with its own barbican and drawbridge. (PastScape)
