Castle reported by Harvey is a reference to an Iron Age Hill Fort.

Gatehouse Comments

This is now a square earthwork with a Georgian mansion in the centre of the earthwork. It has a commanding position. Gatehouse suspects that the earthwork has been somewhat altered when the Georgian mansion was built. There was antiquarian speculation this was a Roman camp (see VCH) but there seems to be no real question that this was an Iron Age hill fort, nor has any author other than Harvey ever suggested medieval occupation.
