To the west of North Road is a field marked on the 1st Edition map as Crow Castle. The discovery of 12th-century pottery on the site combined with its name makes it a contender for the site of Crofts Castle, a medieval manor documented from the 13th century. However, Castle Hill in West Crewkerne parish has also been suggested as the centre of the Croft estate (Dunning 1977). (Richardson, 2003)
