Castellated mansion of c.1600 probably built on site of earlier castle called 'Shepeton Corbet Castel' by Leland. (Jackson 1988)

Gatehouse Comments

Leland mentions this in a list of castle which includes fortified manor houses like Stokesay Castle and Acton Burnell. The lack of remains of the C16 house probably suggests a not particularly thick walled house but this was certainly a manor house of knightly status of a style Leland considered as a 'castle' so certainly a fortified manor house.
