A castle once stood on Ronhill (name SO 673762). It was much smaller than the castle to the north-west of the church (SO 67 NE 8). (Auchmuty's description of the latter suggests, as does his description of Castle Toot (SO 67 NE 6) a Medieval origin. He may well be inferring that Ronhill can be taken in the same context). Gatehouse Comments

This site is close to the major Mortimer castle but it seems unlikely this was a castle. Hugh Mortimer's castle at Cleoberi was taken by Henry II in 1155, when Mortimer rebelled but the chronicle mentions no siege and it is probably the castle was not garrisoned and was simple occupied (Mortimer would have concentrated his forces at Bridgenorth where there was a siege). Presumably Ronhill is a corruption of Round Hill but it would seem that the most likely explanations of this, now lost, feature would either be a natural glacial feature (a drumlin) or a pre-historic burial mound.
