Mound beside church may be Wallingford siege works of c1140 (Renn, 1973).

No mention of mound in PastScape. The current St Peter's Church is C18. Whilst it is somewhat doubtful regarding this specific mound the possibility that there was some sort of siege work at or near the church cannot be discounted. In the Antiquity article Renn write "Built by Henry of Anjou in 1152, relieving castle from Stephen's counter fort at Crowmash" An archaeological field investigators report of 1963 reads "St. Peters Church immediately south of the east gate sits on a mound, obviously part of the burh bank" Is there a suggestion the burh bank had been adapted into a mound to form a siege work? The medieval church was destroyed in the C17 Civil War and there is also the possibility the mound is demolition rubble of this date.
