A tower at Buckton is listed in 1415, and in 1626 mention is made of 'Tower land, malt barn, kilne and dovecoat' (last at NU 08063857 see NU 03 NE 15 (sic - actually NU 03 NE 10)) (Hodgson 1820).
There are no visible remains of the tower in or around the present hamlet, and neither 'tower land' nor any other significant field name is recorded on a plan of 1761 held by a local farmer. Its view of the tower's association with the dovecot, however, it probably stood on the site of the farmhouse at NU 08123845, which occupies a prominent position (F1 EG 13-APR-55). (PastScape)
